Curious about how to decorate with yellow?
Raise your hand if this is you: you open your door after a long and tiring day on a cold January evening when the sky is already dark.
You are greeted by your gray walls and neutral decor.
Sounds depressing, right? What about if that same home was decorated with yellow?
Living in Canada means we have to endure long winters and the colour inside our home should help us feel safe and protected from the elements outside.
Not to mention that yellow is just plain fun and will pick you up all year long.
It is important to know when to stop with this colour though. Otherwise, you can feel like you’re living inside a candy store.
HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY DECORATE WITH YELLOW
1/ Select 1 large piece of furniture
Don’t overdo it and buy an entire room full of yellow furniture. One really beautiful piece will make a statement, particularly if the yellow is a deeper, more saturated yellow like this cabinet below.
2/ Bold, Colourful Artwork
If you’re not willing to commit to the investment of a yellow piece of furniture go for artwork. And think beyond oversized abstract art (although we love that too!).
Check out Etsy for photography, watercolour and prints. Look for pieces that include other colours from your room’s decor for extra decorating points.
3/ Doors & Windows
Your neighbours will love you if you paint your exterior door yellow but why not keep in inside where you can enjoy it. Even the window trim alone will make a big impact in your space.
4/ Create a Flow
Select a couple of pieces to carry the colour through an otherwise neutral colour palette.
The colour of the chair below is repeated in the artwork and although the room still maintains a sleek, cool feel there is a definite liveliness from the colour.
Be brave and go bold! You’ll never regret adding yellow to your life.
