No, Amazon Prime Day deals are for Prime Members only! But you CAN shop on Prime Day without committing to a paid Prime membership by signing up for a 30-day free trial.
If you have not been a Prime Member in the last 12 months, you need to sign up in order to participate in the sale.
Anyone can join Prime or start a 30-day free trial to participate in Prime Day.
How to sign up for Amazon Prime:
- Visit amazon.com/prime.
- Click on the orange button that says “Start your free 30-day trial.”
- Sign in or create an Amazon account.
- Add a payment method and a billing address. (Don’t worry — you won’t be charged upfront.)
- Click the yellow button that says “Activate your free trial.”

What’s New For Prime Day?
Much of Amazon Prime Day 2023 will be similar to previous years, but there’s a few new things you should know about.
Here’s what’s new for Amazon Prime Day:
⚡Invite-Only Deals
This year Amazon announced a new shopping tool for Prime Day: invite-only deals. These are products that Amazon expects to sell out fast, so they’re offering shoppers an option to request an invitation to shop the deal before they sell out.
Not all invite requests will be granted, and Amazon hasn’t told us how they’ll be selecting people. All we know right now is that you can start requesting invitations today on specific invite-only deals.
You can browse some of this year’s invite-only deals here. There are only a handful of invite-only deals you can already opt into, but I have a feeling Amazon will release more as Prime Day draws closer.
I’ll add the best deals to this page as they pop up! So far my top pick is this SodaStream Sparkling Water Maker that’s 20% off if your invite request is granted.
How invite-only deals work:
After you request an invitation by clicking the yellow button that says “Request invite”, you’ll see a notification that let’s you know your invite request was received. However, you’ll have to wait until Prime Day to see if you’ve been selected to shop the deal.
You’ll receive an email on Prime Day (July 11th) notifying you whether or not you were selected. If invited, you’ll receive a unique link that’s valid throughout the Prime Day event.
I’m not sure how many invites they’ll be accepting per product, so if you see something catches your eye be sure to request an invite asap!
⚡Earn 10% back (or more!) on select deals using your Amazon Store Card
Prime cardmembers regularly earn 5% back on all purchases but on Prime Day you can earn up to 10% back on select deals like climate pledge friendly deals, lawn & garden deals, home & kitchen deals and more.
Plus, cardmembers can get as much as 25% back on select Amazon devices. Stacked with the already discounted prices, this is huge!

Every year Amazon offers a few ways to earn free cash to use on Prime Day. Here’s how to earn credits leading up to Prime Day 2023:
- From July 3 through July 10, Amazon is offering a $5 credit on an eGift card purchase of $50 or more.
For a bonus $275, you can sign up for their Prime Visa. Once approved you’ll receive a $275 credit on your Amazon account.

⚡Alexa’s Advanced Deal Alerts Feature
Do you have a newer generation Amazon Echo smart speaker in your home? Listen up!
You can get alerts from Alexa up to 24 hours before a Prime deal is going live. Heck yes!
There are a couple of ways to take advantage of Alexa’s advanced deal alert feature for Prime Day:
- Add items you want to buy on Prime Day to your Amazon Wish List or to your shopping cart. (You can also mark them Saved for Later.) Once added to your cart or list, Alexa will notify you when the deal is live via a yellow ring light on your newer generation Echo smart speaker or a pop-up on your Echo display.
- You can also remind Alexa to notify you when the deal is live, or even have the assistant buy the item, with your permission, when the deal takes effect.
- You can also ask Alexa: “Alexa, what are my Prime Day deals?” for more notifications and alerts of deals during Prime Day.
You’ll need to enable Alexa’s advanced deal alerts. Here’s how:
- Start the Alexa app on your mobile device.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap More.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Notifications.
- Tap Amazon Shopping, then in the Shopping Recommendations section, turn on Deal Recommendations by swiping the button to the right.
How do I prepare for Amazon Prime Day?
Besides refreshing the dedicated Amazon Prime Day page (and checking in with this page for my own coverage of the sale), there’s a few things you need to do so you don’t miss out on the best deals:
1. Sign up for an Amazon Prime Membership
Don’t forget to make sure you’re signed up for Amazon Prime before the big event kicks off in July! If you’re not a Prime Member, click here to start a 30-day free trial.
2. Sign up for invites
Browse through my top picks of invite-only deals and request an invite to any you’re interested in for a chance to save BIG!
3. Download the Amazon Shopping mobile app.
With the Amazon app you can receive deal alert notifications related to your recent Amazon searches and recently viewed items. You can also create deal alerts in the app between now and Prime Day (July 11th) and on Prime Day you’ll receive push notifications on any available deals.
The app also makes it easier to check in on your order status and get customer support.
4. Create Your Wish List
Create a List to keep track of items you want to check for deals during Prime Day
To create a List:
- Go to Account & Lists and select Your Lists.
- Select Create a List and insert a list name.
- Select Create List.
- Select the three dots menu, and Manage List to update your shipping address and other preferences.
- Select Save Changes.You can repeat this process to create an unlimited amount of lists.
You can also select Add to List on any item’s product details page. Look for it right around where the “add to cart” button is located.
Reminder: be sure to check back on your list when Prime Day 2023 begins and you’ll be able to see which products have gone on sale so you can quickly add them to cart before they’re gone.
5. Clip Amazon Coupons and SAVE
Where are all my fellow crazy couponers at?? Last year Amazon created a page dedicated to all of the digital coupons available on their site, organized by category and it’s still available for Prime Day 2023.
Quickly browse the available digital coupons from one convenient place. I’ve already been busy browsing all the items this year and clipping away!

3 More Tips For Getting The Best Deals During Prime Day
Tip #1: Watch Lightning Deals & Today’s Deals
Prime Day will feature more than one million deals globally, and they move fast. Once Prime Day begins, you will want to start watching the Lightning Deals and Today’ Deals (formerly called Daily Deals).
What Are Lightning Deals On Amazon?
Lightening deals are sale items paired with extra savings for a limited 4-hour window or until all the available inventory is claimed.
Because Lightning Deals are time-sensitive, it’s important to complete your order as soon as possible because they sell out fast!
Pro Tip: When the lightning deal is available you’ll be able to see a status bar indicating how many times that deal has already been claimed and a timer showing how long you have to add the item to your Cart.
People sometimes add items to their cart but never checkout, so it’s a good idea to click the ‘Join the Waitlist’ button and be notified if/when that item becomes available.
But act fast, these deals are named Lightning Deals for a reason!
What Are Today’s Deals On Amazon?
Today’s Deals last the full day(s) of Prime Day until the inventory sells out.
How to “Watch A Deal”
Watch A Deal notification lets you know when your deal is about to start. Here’s how to get notified when deals go live.
- Click Watch this Deal on an upcoming Lightning Deal.
- You can see this deal in the Watched Deals section of the Today’s Deals page.
- A notification will be sent to your phone when the deal is about to start if the latest Amazon App is downloaded and notifications are turned on.
Tip #2: Look For Deal Badges
Prime Day deals are badged in red to help you find products that are marked down for the event.
Tip #3: Earn an Amazon Prime digital credit when you choose free No-Rush Shipping.
Don’t need your order right away? When you select FREE No-Rush Shipping at checkout you can earn digital credit to be used on digital products, including instant video downloads, Kindle, eBooks, Digital Music, and Amazon Appstore apps.
I always choose this option when I can and we’re usually able to rent movies on Amazon for free because of this!
